1. Unaccompanied children: national and european protection

Bando e linea: Jean Monnet Module
durata: 3 anni

Abstract del progetto:

The project focuses on the issue of migrant children, in particular unaccompanied minors, also known as separated children. They are generally foreign persons under the age of 18, who arrive, often illegally, on European territory without a responsible adult who takes care of them.

The intensification of the migratory flow from non-European countries to European states has increased the possibility of children to move from their own state of origin to another, searching for the best opportunities. Most of them apply for asylum after arriving in the receiving country, others are  trafficking victims or victims of crime or abused, neglected, or abandoned children.
In the national and European panorama, new legal instruments and specific institutions have been created to promote the integration of unaccompanied children and to guarantee equal protection between local and foreign minors.
This phenomenon imposes legal intervention on the member countries to manage these presences and offer fair solutions to the children's needs. On the one hand the efforts of the local authority are directed to take special measures in this legal area; on the other hand, the principle that each action affecting the minor's future must be taken with the best interest of the child regardless of his migratory status became widespread in European countries.

The objects of the module are:
the study of the Italian rules, practice and services existing in favor of unaccompanied children (foster care, reunification, acquisition of citizenship and other), the analysis of the other european legal systems (such as France, UK, Spain, etc) on the same thematic;
the research of European standards to find common principles for the best solution to children problems.

2. Inter4Ref “CVET and accreditation framework to up-skill interpreters to support the social inclusion of refugees”

Bando e linea: Erasmus + (KA2)
durata: 2  anni (2018-20)
PI del progetto: prof.ssa Rita Bertozzi
Università, centri o altri partner coinvolti: Università di Almeria (Spagna), National Centre for Social Research EKKE (Grecia) , Università di Glasgow (UK).

Abstract del progetto:

Humanitarian Interpreters hold a central role in addressing the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Europe. The context in which they work is in constant change and calls for an up-to-date training with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach that combines subjects like legislation, crisis and risk management, communication, mediation and emotional intelligence and others. Interpreters working with refugees need specific knowledge, skills and abilities in order to deal with the current challenges and needs that come up in their everyday work. The Inter4Ref project provides training resources aimed to contribute to humanitarian interpreters empowerment and training to support their work with refugees and asylum seekers. These resources are designed on the basis of an investigation that has involved the community of Interpreters, VET providers and trainers and field experts. Interpreters and experts are also involved in the assessment of the project output. The training resources are free and available online.
